Welcome Little Isaac “?” Schroeder!!!

By admin · Comments (0)
Saturday, July 17th, 2010

Erin and I went to sleep around midnight Thursday and I was nudged at 3:30am with a “it’s your turn now”.  Needless to say I had absolutely no idea what that meant.  Turns out it meant Erin was starting to go into labor.  So I did what any smart, loving, wonderful husband would do.  I went back to sleep (to be fair Erin allowed it).

By around 10am everyone except Beth was assembled for the birth (she was on her way, thanks for bringing kolaches and pie!!!).  Erin was a champ.  She spent most of her labor on the floor hugging her pillow and alternating grabbing for the blanket and throwing it off of her.

After the floor she progressed to the birthing pool where she spent almost the entire remainder of her labor.

At 3:23pm a 7lb 5oz, 21.5 inch baby boy was born.  He just might be the cutest thing that’s ever lived on this Earth, so don’t feel bad if your kids don’t look as cute when you see them next.

And here he is today, all cleaned up:

His name is Isaac Schroeder.  We’re still working on a middle name.  He’s perhaps the most laid back kid I’ve ever met.  He doesn’t really cry and he just kicks back and relaxes while you do your thing.

There will be videos to follow but here are some of the pictures we took with our camera.

Overdue and Overheated

By admin · Comments (0)
Saturday, July 17th, 2010

So our little one was “due” on July 9th.  Needless to say, the little one didn’t arrive, and it’s a darn good thing.

Wednesday afternoon, the 14th, our A/C stopped working.  It was quite pleasant, as it was somewhere in the 90s and ridiculously humid outside.  40 week and 5 day pregnant Erin wasn’t exactly thrilled with the conditions, and sweat-prone me wasn’t either.

Inside Temperature!!!Fortunately, our landlord was able to get someone to come out that evening, around 6, to fix it.  Well, fix is a nice way of putting it.  The man was able to rig it for the evening with the promise to come back between 9am and 1pm the following day with the part needed to really fix it.  He even taught me how to jump start the A/C unit.

When the A/C overheated again around 9:30, we noticed it around 10-10:30.  I went outside to follow the instructions and…nothing.  Tried it again…nothing.  So we slept with the box fan on high and the ceiling fan on high.  40 week 6 day pregnant Erin was not a happy sleeper.  Neither was I, and I was the one right next to the box fan.  Thankfully, the man arrived around 11am (after Erin had headed out on some much needed “errands” to wonderful places with air conditioning) and I guess he was finished around 12:30pm because I noticed it getting cooler, went outside to tell him it was working and he was nowhere to be found.  So thank you, man who will never read this (Raul, if you are, you’re awesome and a little creepy because you didn’t even really know my name).

And…I went inside to a cool house and our oven wasn’t working!!! They’re coming out Monday to look at that.  When it rains I guess.

A Day in Old Town Spring

By admin · Comments (0)
Saturday, July 3rd, 2010

So Erin’s sister’s sister-in-law has a place called the Chocolate Lounge in Old Town Spring, and they were a part of the July 4 festivities.  So we headed up there to hang out with Roger’s family and Robyn and the boys.  It was a good time.

When we got there, Roger’s brother Matt was playing with a co-worker and entertaining the room of patrons with some cover songs.  After a lot of the people had left, Barrett and Matt were in the room with Matt playing and Barrett sometimes singing along.

Shortly after that picture Barrett kicked EVERYONE out of the room and did a little solo action on the mic.  Here he is treating the world to his rendition of Veggie Tales.

Hunter was also there in rare form.  He has apparently not only been going to Gymboree with Robyn but taking baby yoga as well.  Don’t really know where yet, but they must be giving free lessons because he’s not getting an allowance yet.

After Avery closed down the Chocolate Lounge for the day we all went to dinner and walked over to the restaurant.  I mostly mention that so I can show you Hunter in daddy’s hat on the way over.

It was a good day and hopefully we’ll see them at church Sunday so Erin can give the boys the tomatoes she bought them.

The Front Baby Room

By admin · Comments (2)
Sunday, June 6th, 2010

So just recently Erin and I decided (well, mostly me) that the front room that is going to be the baby’s play room should have some cool flooring that also provides a little cushion for when the little one’s moving around.  So what did we do?

Naturally we bought 120 sq ft of foam flooring!

It came in 12″x12″ squares that had the alphabet in both lower and upper case (52 sq ft total), two sets of 0-9 (20 sq ft) and 48 sq ft of squares of various colors.

Unfortunately it doesn’t take up the whole room.  I’m still considering trying to convince Erin to let me buy more so we can finish out the room and come into my office a little but that’s for a later time.  She’s kind of overwhelmed by the fact that the kid’s not here and yet already has complete ownership on 2 rooms.

Setting Up the Room

By admin · Comments (1)
Thursday, May 27th, 2010

So as of right now we’re 6 weeks and 1 day from our kids due date.  Getting a little close.

We almost all of the furniture we need (except for a bookshelf but that’s not a high priority) and just need to start putting stuff in the right place.  Right now it’s all just kind of in the room in need of a home.

Today we put the crib bumper on and made the bed look nice.

To the left are two toys Erin’s Grandma made for the little one and one my mom did (my mom’s is the one in the front left), to the right is the pineapple we bought our child in Hawaii (made in China!).  And here’s the crib with the blanket put on:

As you may or may not know, Erin and I plan to cloth diaper.  While it seems slightly daunting, Erin has (as you also may or may not know) more than a small amount of hippie running through her veins and I have no qualms washing approximately 18,000 diapers rather than buying more and more and more and more, especially when I’ll be staying at home with the kid (I can say that now, we’ll see).  So here’s the changing table, complete with our newborn cloth diapers and a fantastic painting Erin’s sister’s sister-in-law Avery painted for the baby for Erin’s baby shower:

So what’s a man going around town to do with the baby’s supplies?  Funny you should ask, because we happened to get a diaper bag that I won’t feel like a giant weirdo wearing.  It’s not the greatest thing I’ve ever carried, but it’s a lot better than a giant purse we could have gotten and it was the best of the options I saw out there:

And, finally, I laid out the diaper covers on the kid’s bed so you can see just how stinking cute these things are.  Apparently they’re not just for decoration, as I originally thought, they actually provide the whole waterproof part so things don’t just seep out.  I have a feeling this just might be a learn as you go type thing.  I’m sure nobody else has ever felt that way though, so I’ll just suck it up and pretend I know exactly what I’m doing like every other first time parent.

2010 Country Flavors Festival (and a pregnancy pic)

By admin · Comments (0)
Wednesday, April 28th, 2010

Since so many have asked for this, here you go.

We’re down to 11 weeks and it’s seemingly closing fast.  The baby’s room is slowly filling up with stuff and it’s starting to feel more and more real.

Now on to what we did this weekend.

For the last 3 years, Erin and I have attended the Brenham Country Flavors Festival.  It’s in the town square of Brenham and has a bunch of vendors surrounding the town square.  But that’s not why we go.  Not even close.  The big draw is a $6 all you can eat Blue Bell wristband.  They have 3 stands serving ice cream with about 10 flavors per stand.  Absolutely delicious stuff and a great way to try flavors without buying huge amounts in the store.  The first year we were there I only put down 6 scoops to Erin’s 9.  Last year we went and Erin and I both had 11 (I think).  This year we went with a huge group and Erin and I both ended up packing down 12 scoops.

We were joined by a group of about 10 other people, some adults, some kids and had a blast.
